BACH: CLAVIER-ÜBUNG III | THE PEDAL SETTINGS
Renée Anne Louprette, organist
Acis Productions
Released on September 24, 2023, Louprette’s third recording on the Acis label coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Craighead-Saunders organ of Christ Church (Episcopal), Rochester, New York, a landmark instrument designed according to the specifications of the organ by Adam Gottlob Casparini in 1776 for the Church of the Dominicans in Vilnius, Lithuania. The instrument displays many of the qualities Johann Sebastian Bach desired in an organ, especially during the late period of his compositional output when the monumental Clavier-Übung III collection was published (1739). This recording aims to present the latest research on the Clavier-Übung pedal works, including revisions and additions in Bach’s own hand, published by Bach scholar George B. Stauffer in an authoritative new edition (Wayne Leupold editions, 2010). The recording project was made possible by Stephen Kennedy, Director of Music and Organist of Christ Church, and David Higgs, Chair of the Organ Department at the Eastman School of Music. Ms. Louprette and Acis Productions wish to acknowledge Matt Parsons and Parsons Pipe Organ Builders of Canandaigua, New York for their care of the instrument in preparation for the recording.
